|---|---|
| SGK 14% and unemployment 1% | −₺15,000.00 |
| Income tax base | ₺85,000.00 |

How salary tax works in Turkey
- SGK: 14% of gross pay for social security and 1% for unemployment insurance, on pay between ₺33,030 and ₺297,270 a month.
- Income tax: charged on gross pay minus SGK, at 15%, 20%, 27%, 35% and 40%. The brackets apply to the running total for the year, so the rate rises as the months go by.
- Minimum wage exemption: the income tax on a minimum wage is not charged, and the same amount is deducted from everyone's tax.
- Stamp tax: 0.759% of gross pay above the minimum wage.
- Employer costs: employer SGK of 21.75% (19.75% with the usual 2-point incentive) plus 2% unemployment insurance. Cost of hiring in Turkey.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my net salary in Turkey go down during the year?
Income tax is calculated on a cumulative base: each month's taxable pay is added to the year's total, and once that total passes ₺190,000 the next part is taxed at 20%, then 27% above ₺400,000. On ₺100,000 gross, net pay falls from ₺75,953 in January to ₺67,157 in December. The total resets every January.
What is the minimum wage exemption?
Every employee pays no income tax on the part of their salary equal to the minimum wage, and no stamp tax on the gross minimum wage. In practice the exemption is the income tax a minimum-wage earner would pay that month: ₺4,211.33 a month from January to June 2026, ₺4,537.75 in July and ₺5,615.10 from August.
Are salaries in Turkey quoted gross or net?
Job offers are very often agreed as a monthly net salary, and the employer works out the gross. If your contract fixes your net pay, your gross salary and your employer's cost rise during the year while your take-home stays the same. Use the net option in the calculator to see this.
Do foreigners pay the same tax in Turkey?
Yes. Income tax does not depend on nationality, and foreign employees on a Turkish employment contract are insured with SGK like everyone else. Exceptions exist for people posted from a country with a social security agreement who keep their home insurance, and for UK and Swiss nationals, who may opt out of the pension branch.
How much does it cost an employer to hire someone in Turkey?
On top of gross salary the employer pays 19.75% SGK (after the usual 2-point Treasury incentive) and 2% unemployment insurance, on pay up to ₺297,270 a month. A minimum-wage employee costs ₺40,214.03 a month. See the employer cost page for other salaries.
