Why the regions differ
Spanish IRPF is split into a state part and a regional part. The state part is the same everywhere; each autonomous community sets its own scale for the regional part and can change the personal and family allowances. Madrid has the lowest rates at most salaries; Catalonia, Valencia and Asturias have higher rates on middle and high incomes. Valencia and Extremadura lowered their 2026 rates in August 2026, with effect for the whole year.
Your region for tax purposes is the one where you spend most days of the year. Residents of Ceuta and Melilla who work there get a 60% deduction. The Basque Country and Navarre run separate tax systems and are not included.
