€200,000 after tax with My Future Fund
If your employer does not offer a company pension and you are aged 23 to 59, you are automatically enrolled in My Future Fund, Ireland's pension auto-enrolment scheme. You pay €1,250 a year (€104 a month) from your take-home pay, which leaves €111,044 a year or €9,254 a month. With your employer's and the State's contributions, €2,917 a year goes into your pension pot.
| Contribution | Year | Month |
|---|---|---|
| You pay 1.5% of €83,333 | €1,250.00 | €104.17 |
| Your employer adds 1.5% | €1,250.00 | €104.17 |
| The State adds 0.5% | €416.67 | €34.72 |
| Going into your pension pot | €2,916.67 | €243.06 |
Your contribution comes out of pay after tax and gets no tax relief; the State top-up replaces it. For every €3 you pay in, your employer adds €3 and the State €1. Once your pay for the year passes €80,000, contributions stop until January. The month in which it passes still counts in full, so with monthly pay of €16,667 contributions are taken for 5 months. The monthly column shows the yearly average. You can opt out in months 7 and 8 after you are enrolled and get your own contributions back; you are then re-enrolled after two years if you are still eligible.
